Email updates

Please check your primary email account; many emails were sent out earlier today. Everyone should have received an email regarding your polo shirt size. A response is only required if your size is incorrect. Also, anyone who has not yet turned in their Health Form or passport copies received an email regarding those issues; please bring any forms to the next meeting.

Know Before You Go

Some families have asked questions about what items student delegates are allowed to bring back to the United States. The U.S. Customs office has a website entitled "Know Before You Go" which details what can, and cannot, be brought back. Here is the link: http://cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/

Please also visit this link, which tells you how to fill in the customs form all students will need to fill out upon our return to the United States: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/sample_declaration_form.xml

The actual form will be handed out by the flight attendants prior to our arrival, and each student will need to fill out a form before we clear customs. I'll do my best to answer questions on the plane, but this site will certainly help prepare students for our arrival.

March meeting update

Our March meeting will be held Sunday, March 20, at 2 P.M., at Cottesmore, a nursing home in Gig Harbor, not far at all from the Narrows Bridge. They have a large meeting room near the rear of the facility which will be great for our needs. The address is 2909 14th Ave NW, Gig Harbor, WA, 98335.

From Tacoma, cross over the bridge and take the first exit immediately after the bridge. Go right at the stop light at the end of the off-ramp, take a left at the T-intersection, and Cottesmore is located less than a half mile up the road on your right.

From Port Orchard take the Olympic Drive exit (the same you take to the library), and turn LEFT at the end of the ramp. Cross over the freeway, go past the entrance to the shopping area, and take a right at the next light. Follow that road down the hill, and turn right at the stop sign. Cottesmore will be about a mile and a half on the left.

Here is a link to a map showing their location: http://maps.yahoo.com/pmaps?csz=Gig+Harbor%2C+WA+98335-1633&state=WA&uzip=98335&ds=n&name=&desc=&ed=5tguw.p_0To3II8BhftmDev8FfmUqVGoAizsfi4pigNQv8D5n9MvbiUIJVDG0Pll7SZac8_mGQ1HsFAHQbOL7N6VZvKxpbwsoadpZr8xZ5dsYw684Q--&zoomin=yes&BFKey=&resize=s&mag=2&trf=0

Our April meeting will be at the same location Sunday, April 24th.

Assignments

As you are working on your country assignments, your journal entries, and looking for relevant articles, you may be asking yourself, "Doesn't this seem a lot like school?" Well, there is a good reason you should feel that way! Part of the whole People to People experience is learning, and earning credit for your learning. As part of your program fee, you are earning high school credit. Did you know you also have the opportunity to earn college credit? How cool will it be to apply to the college of your choice, and be able to include on your application the fact you have already earned college credit associated with your travel adventure? College credit does require a little additional work, and there is a slight fee involved. However, the rewards are well worth it. Eastern Washington University has a special web page devoted to this topic; I encourage you to visit it. Here is the link: http://www.ewu.edu/x6309.xml

When you visit this page, see if you can make a connection with what you learned in the video shown during our January meeting. To make it easier, I'll even give you a hint: Eisenhower.
